Offline Limitations
🛰️ Offline Limitations
Section titled “🛰️ Offline Limitations”Vanlife Assistant is built offline-first, which is exactly what you want when you are parked up in the woods, halfway over a mountain pass, or somewhere with one weak bar of signal that keeps disappearing.
Most of the app keeps working beautifully without internet.
If you are new to the app, Welcome to Vanlife Assistant is the best place to start.
What works offline
Section titled “What works offline”Your core travel data lives on your device, so these parts of the app continue to work normally without a connection:
- Trips and check-ins
- your timeline and travel history
- Money and ledger data
- Manifest and gear tracking
- Glovebox documents
- vehicle information
- many voice interactions
For the bigger setup picture, see Onboarding Guide and Sync and Backups.
What may need internet
Section titled “What may need internet”A few features rely on live services or online sources.
Weather
Section titled “Weather”Forecasts need internet to refresh with current conditions.
See Trips/Weather/Index.
Spot and data downloads
Section titled “Spot and data downloads”If you are importing or downloading larger location datasets, you may need internet at the point of download.
See Spots/Index.
Syncing between devices
Section titled “Syncing between devices”You can still enter data while offline, then let it sync later when a connection returns.
That is covered in Sync and Backups.
Why this matters
Section titled “Why this matters”Life on the road does not happen in perfect signal conditions.
The app is intentionally designed so you can still:
- log journeys
- track spending
- manage gear
- read documents
- capture memories
…even when you are fully off-grid.
To see how that helps with travel logging, read The Magic of Check-ins - Automated Journaling.
